Initiatives of SABINCO to celebrate 50th Anniversary year of Bangladesh
The Bir Sreshtho is the highest military award of Bangladesh. It was awarded to seven freedom fighters who showed utmost bravery and died in action for the nation in 1971. Everyone who has made outstanding contribution to the liberation, they are still in the wall of their history.
A brief life history of Shaheed (Martyrs) is listed below:

01. | Sipahi Muhammad Mustafa Kamal | He was born on 16 December 1947 in Hajipur village of Daulatkhan upazila under Bhola district. His Father Habibur Rahman was a retired constable of army. He was a soldier of fourth East Bengal Regiment. East Bengal Regiment had taken the control of Brahmanbaria with three Defence bases at Aashuganj, Ujanishwar and Anderson lake. Pakistani army continued attacking with their heavy artillery in these places. He died at Darwin on 18 April 1971 during a battle against the Pakistan Army. He was buried at Darwin. He was posthumously rewarded as “Bir Shrestha”, the highest gallantry award in Bangladesh. |
02. | Hamidur Rahman | He was born on 2 February 1953 in Khardo Khalishpur village in Moheshpur thana of the Jhenaidah District. His father’s name is Abbas Ali Mandal andmother’s name Mosammat kayasunnesa. Hamidur Rahman joined the Army as a soldier in 1970 at East Bengal Regiment. He fought in Sector 4. He took part in the liberation war under East Bengal Regiment. A battle was taking place between 1st East Bengal Regiment and 30 A Frontier Force Regiment in Dhalai of Sylhet on 28 October 1971. He was killed on 28 October 1971 at Dholoi during the Battle of Dhalai, Srimangal during an attempt to capture the Pakistani Army’s position. He was buried in Tripura in India. He was posthumously awarded the Bir Sreshtho, the highest recognition of bravery in Bangladesh. |
03. | Captain Mohiuddin Jahangir | He was born on 7 March 1949 in the village of Rahimgonj under Babugonj Upazila of Barisal district. He joined the Pakistan Army as a cadet at the Pakistan Military Academy on 5 October 1967. He was an officer in Sector 7 of the Muktibahini. As a captain, he was given the responsibility to fight at the Chapai Nawabganj border at Rajshahi district. He was killed in an attempt to break through enemy defenses on the bank of the Mahananda River. He was buried near Sona Mosque premises and later was posthumously declared “Bir Shrestho”. |
04. | Flight lieutenant Matiur Rahman | Motiur Rahman was born in 31 October 1941, at his Parental house “Mubarak Lounge” at 109 Aga Sadek road of Old Dhaka. His father name is Moulana Abdus Samad and mother name is Sayeda Mubarokunnesa Khatun. He joined the Pakistan Air Force Academy at Risalpur on 15 August 1961. During the Liberation war, he was planning to defect to Bangladesh with a plane. He attempted to hijack the T-33 in midair from Karachi, Pakistan to India to join the liberation movement. The plane never crossed into India’s airspace and crashed near the border in Pakistan on 20 August 1971. |
05. | Squadron Leader Mohammad Ruhul Amin | He was born in 1935 in the village of Baghacapara under Sonaimuri police Station Noakhali. His father was Mohammad Azhar Patwari and mother was Zulekha Khatun. He joined at Sector-3 under Major K M Shafiullah at the start of Bangladesh Liberation War. He was an engine room artificer in the Bangladesh Navy. December 10, 1971, Shells directly hit the engine room of Padma and destroyed the engine with fire. He jumped into the water and swam ashore but was attacked and killed with bayonets. |
06. | Munshi Abdur Rouf | He was born on 8 May 1943 at Salamatpur village under Madhukhali thana in Faridpur District. His father Munshi Mehedi Hossain was an “Imam” at a local mosque and his mother was Mukidunnesa. He joined the East Pakistan Rifles on 8 May 1963 and was attached with a regular infantry unit during the War of Liberation. Rouf died on 20 April 1971 at Burighat in Chittagong Hill Tracts after causing extensive damage to the Pakistani Army with his machine gun and forcing them to retreat. He was buried at Naniarchor Upazila in Rangamati District. |
07. | Nur Mohammad Sheikh | He was born on February 26, 1936, in Moheshkhali village Narail district. His father was Mohammad Amanat Sheikh and his mother’s name was Mosammat Jinnatunnesa Khanam. Nur Mohammad Sheikh joined the East Pakistan Rifles on 14 March 1959. As the war started, he joined sector 8 and continued to take part at different battles at Jashore. He was killed in an engagement with the Pakistan Army while providing covering fire for the extrication of fellow soldiers at Goalhati in Jessore district on 5 September 1971. He died on 5 September during the Goalhati Battle in Sutipur. He was buried in Kashipur under Sharsha upazila of Jashore district. |
